Wallace De Wolf (American 1854 – 1930) American Impressionist Old Vermont Landscape Oil on Canvas Painting. Signed Lower Right. Presented in the original 3” Arts & Crafts carved gilt wood frame. This painting was exhibited at the Pasadena Art Institute (according to an old label affixed to the stretcher bar.

COMMENTS: Wallace De Wolf (American 1854 – 1930). Well listed artist. Numerous auction records.Born in Chicago, Illinois in 1854 - was a self-taught artist. He was a successful lawyer and real estate broker in Chicago. He traveled to the West Coast, the Southwest and also to British Columbia where he painted many landscape paintings. De wolf was a member of the the Print Committee at the Art Institute of Chicago where he help the institution procure a collection of prints by the artist Anders Zorn. When he retired around 1917 he moved to Pasadena where he painted and exhibited. De wolf committed suicide due to health problems in Pasadena on Christmas day 1930. In his will, he left the Art Institute of California fifty-thousand dollars and a collection of line engravings.
