Tilt Top Tables

A very English and American Colonial phenomenon. These tables were very often very decorative employing heavily carved motifs and exotic veneers. The tilt top mechanism was originally intended as a space saving feature enabling the table to be easily tucked away in a corner when not in use. Many of the larger English banquet dining tables were also designed as tilt top tables to allow the tables to be reduced in scale when not needed it its fully extended size.
