John Cooke Bourne (British, 1814-1896) Colored Engraving of Robert Hay's Principal Entrance to the Great Mosque El-Azhar from Robert Hay's Illustrations of Cairo printed by C. Hullmandel in London in 1840 & published by Tilt & Bogue. This lithograph was drawn to stone by John Cooke Bourne. Many of Hay's Illustrations depicted street life of Cairo at the time and are an interesting glimpse of history as many of the buildings were demolished in the years following. Hays completed two expeditions to Egypt from 1824 - 1834. Presented in an antique gold leaf frame.
