Comments: Max Liebermann (German, Born 1847 Berlin, Germany - Died 1935 Berlin, Germany) was a prominent painter of the German school of impressionism. Liebermann was a co-founder of "Die Gruppe XI" and the "Berlin Secession" - a group of artists that provided a forum of avant garden German artists wanting to be free of the traditional academic confines of the day.
Liebermann was known for painting common people at their work and everyday life scenes, believing the quiet and solemn nature of workers was a worthy subject. Later in his careen he also painted scenes of the bourgeoisie and his garden.
